Spring/Summer 2010 Eco Jewelry Collection

Spring/Summer 2010 marks 2 years in April that I've been working on building ecocessories. Since releasing my line into retail stores in Fall 2009, I have been able to really test new designs and really listen to what my customers want.

I'm am separating my design efforts into two major collections in 2010 - Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. For Spring/Summer 2010 I am spending time really concentrating on my inspiration this season - water, in its many shapes and forms. I have a vision board that I designed, which is guiding my path, along with the many daily experiences I have with water living here in coastal B.C. From raindrops sliding down my window pane, to the rushing mountain streams, full from a thawing Spring; from the ripples of the mountain lake to the splash of rolling ocean waves, water inspires me.

So what does all of this mean for my jewelry collection? Colours such as ocean blue, turquoise pools, coral pinks, lily pad green, sunshine yellow, and frothing white are my palette this season, all drawn from my water inspiration. Silver tear drops, perfect circles, swirls and soft curves are the shapes in my designs.

I am working on the collection as you read this, and you'll start to see Spring/Summer 2010 trickle in online, stream into my stores, and arrive with a big splash at the Green Living Show, on April 23, 24, and 25th in Toronto, Ontario. I'm also planning a photo shoot before the show, to really showcase the wearability of my jewelry designs. Welcome to Spring!

BYOB Workshop at Poppy Hair Boutique

On Wednesday, April 14th I am looking forward to a night of fun at one of my favourite salon/boutiques - Poppy Hair! Located in on West 4th Avenue in Kitsilano, Poppy is hosting a one night workshop that teaches you to style your hair like the pros - using your own tools and products! To sweeten the deal, the cost of the workshop is $35, but you can take that value home in eco-friendly hair care products such as Aveda and Bumble & Bumble.

Poppy Hair Boutique sells a selection of my ecocessories™ jewelry designs, so plan to shop from my Spring 2010 collection during the evening, as well as browse lines from many other talented Vancouver artists that Poppy carries. Hope to see you there!

Spring Pops Up in the Studio

Winter is rearing its ugly head in Vancouver, but I can't complain since this is some of the first snow and cold we've endured this season! However, that doesn't stop me from being in the mood for Spring. My new line of Spring 2010 ecocessories™ jewelry is being inspired by water. Flowing swirls, gentle curves, and rhythmic waves are reflected in the shapes and colours of this collection.

Enjoy this sneak peek at some new earring designs, which will be hitting the online shop and my retail stores in the coming weeks.

Poppy Seed Living Collaboration at the Green Living Show

The Green Living Show happening in Toronto on April 23, 24 and 25th is fast approaching! I am very excited to be flying back to Ontario for this show and have a special collaboration to announce. ecocessories will be collaborating with Jelena of Poppyseed Creative Living. Jelena is a Toronto based artist whose passion is transforming used furniture into one-of-a-kind decor for your home or cottage! My booth at Green Living will be decorated with my jewelry being displayed on Jelena's one-of-a-kind furniture.

{Teal Art Deco Dresser}

Jelena's designs have a worn, comforting appeal with distressed surfaces, antique handles and knobs, and fresh patterns lining the drawers.

{Red Hutch/Dresser}

Her creativity expresses bold colours on the revamped drawers and surfaces of the furniture that Jelena rescues. I love her use of colour and attention to detail with her choice of complimentary knobs, handles, and drawer liners.

{Green Linen Chest}

See more at Poppyseed Living's Etsy shop, and be sure to check out Booth #122 where all the furniture displaying ecocessories jewelry will be for sale, with free delivery in the GTA after the show!

Artistic Wire Wrapping Workshop

Hello readers! I have been quiet on the blog the past few weeks while we soaked up the energy of Vancouver during the Olympics. The city and country were alive with patriotism, and I met so many kind and interesting people from all over the world. Riding the bus, on the streets and in the shops, everyone was full of smiles and generous spirits as we cheered the world on!

Last week, life started to return to normal and March 2010 was officially kicked off with a session of my Artistic Wire Wrapping Workshop hosted by Vanterra Education in North Vancouver, B.C.

{Top - Students concentrate on wrapped loops, Bottom Left - a few finished pairs, Bottom Right - Shannen shows off her designs! See the rest of the photos on Facebook}

Students were provided all of the materials needed to design 2-3 pairs of sterling silver & recycled bead earrings. Recycled beads from my collection were available along with precut sterling silver wire kits. Students were also invited to bring their own old jewelry to recycle the beads, which a few people did!

The class learned to hand make earring wires and learned the basics of wire-wrapping to create their very own one-of-a-kind pairs of earrings. Stay tuned to the blog for announcements of future workshops, or email me directly at to arrange a custom workshop hosted at your home or office!

UPDATE: The workshop will be hosted again on Thursday, April 8, 2010 through Vanterra Education! Click here to register.
