David Suzuki Fundraiser Silent Auction Donation

On Thursday, November 19th "An Evening of Sustainable Food, Wine, and Fashion Design" will be happening at the Terminal City Club in Vancouver, B.C. I was invited to donate a set of jewelry to the silent auction with proceeds going to support the David Suzuki Foundation.

I gladly accepted and set about designing a set of sustainable jewelry. The "Eternal Earth Collection" was inspired by the David Suzuki Foundation and the environmental advocates within it. The word eternal means everlasting, enduring, continuing and that is how I like to think of our planet – as a growing, living, and sustaining Earth. The only way the planet can be like this is because of people who take time to make a difference, heal the environment, and educate the public such as Dr. David Suzuki, an award-winning scientist, environmentalist, and broadcaster.

The “Eternal Earth Link Bracelet/Necklace Combo” features a detachable sterling silver bracelet that can be worn on it’s own, or as part of the necklace. The necklace can be likewise worn with or without the bracelet, making for a versatile design. A single silver recycled leaf adorns the bracelet. Recycled black roses hug the signature ecocessories clasp that closes the necklace. Recycled Swarovski crystals are an elegant accent to this nature inspired design.

The “Eternal Earth Oval Cuff” has been hand formed, hammered and shaped into this one-of-a-kind design. A simple black rose is wire wrapped to the sterling silver cuff along with a recycled Swarovski crystal.

Again in the “Eternal Earth Link Earrings” the same recycled beads are simple touches to the intertwined hammered and formed links that complete the earrings in this set. Sustainability, attention to detail and style are all considered in this eco-friendly set of jewelry that was hand crafted in North Vancouver, B.C. using only recycled beads and mostly non-toxic silversmithing processes.

Bid on this stunning set of sustainable, eco-friendly jewelry at "An Evening of Sustainable Food, Wine, & Fashion Design". RSVP on Facebook Here.

New Line Launching at Portobello West

I'm launching a new line of jewelry designs tomorrow at Portobello West! I'm still trying to decide on an official name, but I've taken a series of funky, chunky clip-on earrings and converted them into rad, reinvented necklace pendants. Earrings are set on texturized and hammered sterling silver discs for a modern vintage feel.

I'm so proud of this line and think they will make fabulous Christmas gifts. The necklaces will be priced less than $100 and each piece is one-of-a-kind! Tell a story with the gifts you choose this holiday season.

If you are in Vancouver - don't forget! Portobello West is tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009 from 12-6pm at the Rocky Mountaineer Station.

$2 admission and FREE shuttle from the Main St. Skytrain Station!

Fall Leaves, Good Karma, and Romance

I'm working in my home-based studio today - but in a matter of weeks I'll be designing in a new studio space downtown Vancouver. As of Nov. 1st I'll be renting a jeweler's studio space in an old heritage building in Gastown, a historic and charming area of Vancouver right on the waterfront of the Burrard Inlet.

This is a big step for ecocessories and as I spend the last week designing in my home while preparing for Portobello West, I can't help but reflect on the path that's led here, my goals for the future, and on what is inspiring me right now. I realize that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith.

Portobello West
is this Sunday, October 25th. Make your gifts count this year by giving handmade, sustainable, and one-of-a-kind designs.

One Of A Kind Vancouver

On Thursday, I headed down to the Vancouver Convention Center to attend the One Of A Kind Show & Sale. I visited with some amazing vendors and scoped out some unique designers to support this holiday season. Of course I am always most interested in the eco-friendly goods, so I took a stroll down through the Green District, an aisle dedicated solely to eco-entrepreneurs!

First I met Jill, of All Things Jill, who produces a line of eco-friendly bath and body products. Jill got started when she brewed up a few things as gifts for friends & family. The products were such a hit that those recipients then wanted to give gifts to their friends & family too! All Things Jill was born. Jill boasts about how the concept of being green is embed in all aspects of her business - from the products themselves, to production, packaging, shelving and all other processes. In fact they produce less than a bag of garbage every 3 weeks! Visit Jill this holiday season to "Pamper Your Body. Protect The Earth."

If you have a little one to buy from this season, choose an eco-friendly beaver friend, or stylish upcycled wool hat, or how about an organic teether for your babe. Dress Me Up is owned by Tressa who boasts that each of her simple & adorable products are one-of-a-kind. Tressa screen prints beautiful, soothing patterns on long rolls of organic fabric, and then cuts them up for her toys, making each design unique. Give your youngster a safe, stylish, handmade toy this year from Dress Me Up.

Green vendors peppered the rest of the show too, and after I left the Green District I met the energetic Wendy of Dhalia Drive. The name comes from the street where she used to live, and she also draws inspiration from the Dhalia flower (she used her neighbour's blossoms to create dye for her slips). Wendy designs stunning robes and slips that are truly works of art. Gaudy fabrics are entirely reinvented as Wendy dyes, prints, and even sometimes uses rust to stain intricate patterns on her new creations. Wendy is an eco-avenger as she works hard "Resurrecting The Fashion Wasteland" and her designs are a must see at the One Of A Kind Show & Sale.

If you are in Vancouver this Thanksgiving weekend, definitely make time to visit the Vancouver Convention Centre where the show will be on until October 11th. More details on the website here.

Eco Wire Wrapped Pendants

Lately, I've been focusing my design efforts on some new pieces - pendants that I hope will appeal to many of my ecocessories following and that will flatter many different women and necklines. I came up with these two inch pendants inspired by the Earth.

{Budding Branch, Red Sizzle, and Purple Magnolia necklaces}

The pendants come on a simple sterling silver chain, that is completely adjustable up to a maximum of (S) 18", (M) 24", or (L) 30" depending on the length you choose at checkout. The chain is closed with a sterling silver C clasp to achieve an adjustable and secure design.

{Storm Cloud, Tree of Light, and layered pendant necklaces to depict S, M, & L chains}

I'd love to know what you think of the pendants! Comment below - it's especially great to get feedback on new designs, such as these. I brought them to my silversmithing class last night to get feedback from jewelry designers "in the know" and they were a hit.

Visit the online shop to pick up your favourite pendant and enjoy free ground shipping in Canada.

Fine Finds - A Yaletown Style Destination

I'm excited to announce that my sterling silver & recycled bead designs are now in 4 store locations in the Vancouver area! I'm going to introduce you to each store, one at a time. But first I'd like to also let you know that I'll be adding a second wave of Fall 2009 designs to the site on Thursday, October 8th at 9:00am EST. You know the date, and you know the time - be sure to check out the shop on Thursday. And now, introducing...

Fine Finds
is truly a Yaletown style destination - there are other stores in the area and you can spend a day checking them all out, but be sure to hit up this wonderful boutique on Mainland Street. It's a short walk from the Yaletown Canada Line stop and worth visiting first!

Upon entering you may not know where to start! Is it the attractive stand of hats, or the new Fall scarves and hats? The delicious vanilla soaps, or the bath & body products made by an assortment of Canadian companies? The playful accessories - from headbands, hair clips, bags, or diamond bottle stoppers for the perfect wedding gift?

Explore the racks of designer clothing and find some favourite Canadian labels including Soia & Kyo, Eve Gravel, Valerie Dumaine, Sweet Soul, or Lily & Jae. Score your favourite international designer brands too, like the versatile Metalicus line or Colleen Eitzen.

The best part though, in my humble opinion, is the dozen glass cabinets of locally handmade designer jewelry. ecocessories has joined many Vancouver favourites at this boutique known for it's high quality, locally made, sterling silver and gold fill jewelry.
