Why I Believe in Buying Handmade

Yes! This article is great - although I am directing you to see another jewelry designer (and one named Jessica at that!) - you have to read this article. The author talks about handmade products and the surprising realization that there are still some people out there who equate "craft" with "crap". She also talks about the movement to "think global and act local" and how this is the very definition of buying handmade products - such as ecocessories. Especially since all the jewelry is recycled!

Read the article here.

I was having an interesting conversation the other day about how fashionable it is to knit, and wear knitted pieces. One person recalled being a little girl and feeling ashamed to wear handcrafted knits made by her mom - but she would die to still own those items now! It seems that handmade products and what they mean has come full circle.

Buying handmade is like buying a piece of art, no matter what the item. You can guarantee that the designer has put a lot of thought, care, and attention into every single item. The product has been produced under favourable and fair working conditions and quality is guaranteed. Most designers, including myself, have a lot of pride for their work and are happy to do repairs at any point in the item's life.

In a few weeks, I'll be launching a new ecocessories website. This blog will still be a part of it, but it will be much easier to shop, and learn more about ecocessories and what recycling jewelry is all about. Keep checking my blog for updates, and be sure to join my e-newsletter for exciting grand opening sales!
