ecocessories - The Inspiration

ecocessories was born one sunny spring afternoon while visiting the Epic Expo - a sustainable living consumer show. I was dazzled by the array of sustainable fashion products available these days and impressed at the creativity of all the designers. My inner artist stirred, and before I knew it, a whole business concept was born.

I thought about sustainable fashion and what it meant... and to me that is recreating resources and materials that already exist into something new, fashionable, durable and cool! I thought about all the jewelry I had at home... my everyday pieces were boring, cheap and lacking. My expensive jewels are in hiding for special occasions, and none of my jewelry fit in between. I realized that is exactly where ecocessories fits in.

I gathered together all my old costume jewelry, separated the beads, disposed of the clasps and earring hooks, invested in new silver chain and findings, and I was off! I thought about how if I could convince all my friends and family to recycle their old and broken jewelry I'd have a great variety of materials to work with. Then I thought even bigger - if I could convince every woman to start recycling their jewelry through ecocessories I could reduce waste, and seriously liven up some jewelry boxes at the same time!!

What do you think? Am I on to something?

Do you have old jewelry that just takes up space in your jewelry box?

  1. Hey Jess! This looks great. I love some of the jewellery you've done and can't wait to see more. I'll have to see if mom can take a look for some of my old jewellery and send it your way! I’ll pass this on to some of my friends too. I've got a mate who does something similar just as a hobby though but I'll see if she has any suggestions for you! Great work! Love ya, T xoxox
